How Effective are CHARCOAL & Sand Water Filters? Let's find out!
This week we're making another simi primitive slash survival water filter. We're using a plastic bottle, some sand, charcoal, gravel, and some cedar boughs for this one. These sand and charcoal water purifiers have been used for thousands of years and they're actually very good at removing sediment and clarifying dirty water. Here I show how to make a DIY charcoal survival water filter, and use sunlight to sanitize the water. The lab results weren't exactly what I'd imagined though!
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitiv...

Primitive Bow Build, Catch and Cook | Tilapia | Bamboo Fish Arrows
Просмотров 57 тыс.14 дней назад
This week we're heading back down to south Florida to meet up with my buddy Scott to put some primitive bow fishing equipment to the test. South Florida is home to many invasive fish species including armored catfish and tilapia, some of which can grow quite large. But hitting these spooky fish with primitive bamboo arrows is challenging to say the least. After a while we manage to get an arrow...
Is this SAFE? Testing the Gypsy Well Primitive Water Filter
Просмотров 68 тыс.21 день назад
Clean drinking water is critical to life. Without it, humans couldn't survive for more than a few days. In this week's video we're continuing the series on low-tech primitive water filters by testing out the Gypsy Well, one of the oldest and most reliable methods for producing reliable, clean, and safe drinking water with very minimal tools. Gypsy wells, aka coyote well, seepage basin, etc. is ...
Newly Discovered PRIMITIVE WATER FILTER! 100% Effective

According to the CDC, waterborne disease killed over six thousand people last year in the US alone. Waterborne pathogens such as e. coli, cryptosporidium, and giardia are prevalent in many surface water sources. There are several primitive methods for water purification including surface wells (gypsy well), boiling, and other primitive water filters which utilize some combination of course subs...
I didn't Expect THIS! 3 Day Solo SURVIVAL CHALLENGE

Every now and then it's good to just take off on a solo camping trip and see what happens! That's what I did on my most recent outing, a solo survival challenge, where I canoed about 30 miles over 3 days with no food or shelter, and only one bottle of water. I only brought that because I wanted to try to make a solar fire from the water bottle. Spring/Summer in Florida can be unforgiving and al...
Revealing the Secrets of the Hand Drill FRICTION FIRE!

Nothing says primitive skills quite like a hand drill friction fire. There's just something about the process of making a hand spun fire that conjures up images of primitive man. Once you understand friction fire techniques, it's not all that hard but the process can seem mysterious for those new to primitive survival skills and bushcraft. This video is kind of a hand drill friction fire 101 so...

Today we're heading out to the back 40 to put a few rounds through my 20 gauge flintlock fowler. I'll talk about the load I've been using for turkey hunting and answer some questions from the audience. How does a flintlock muzzleloader work? Gauge vs caliber, Smoothbore vs Rifle, how do you load a flintlock shotgun, and a few more odds and ends. But mostly, we're just out burning black powder a...
Island Survival Challenge: Bamboo Bow Build, Hunt, Catch & Cook

This may be the best primitive survival/bow building video I've ever done. While on a recent trip to a tropical island, I took on the challenge of building a primitive survival bow, arrow, and bow string from local materials and seeing if I could complete an island survival challenge catch and cook. The primitive bow string was made from variegated snake plant, the primitive bow, from a large p...
Underwater Archery | Semi-Primitive Spearfishing Catch & Cook

While browsing around at #spearfishing videos I came across a video from @RyanMyersExpeditions where he was using some sort of Hawaiian sling pole spear that shot a free shaft (not tethered with a line). I thought it was a cool concept and had never seen anything like that before so I figured I'd throw something together a little more primitive. I ended up using a band from a pole spear, a chun...

In a long term survival situation or extended wilderness living, any passive food gathering methods can be vitally important. Primitive fish traps are a lot of work up front but, in the right situation, they can pay for themselves many times over. There are many ways to make fish traps and this one is inspired from some of the Asian cultures who have access to large tracts of bamboo. Bamboo is ...

Having worked in water treatment for 30 years (R/O, Cationic exchange, U/V), I find this an absolutely amazing survival filtration method. After what you have done here as a "prepper-survivalist expert", someone should take this a testing stage further. Meaning, starting with a high school science project up to university level proper testing a range of parameters and a range of plants/trees Already you've proved a lot here, So... does it reduce: NO2 NO3 Arsenic Heavy metals How about radio activity from fall out...? Tra-la-la. Even if it cannot "do everything " it already does a hell of a lot as is... I found your video really fascinating Specially the explanation about the cell Membrane transfer . You didn't need Chlorine, Ozone, U/V, or even boiling it. Nature did it, and you shared it with us. THANKS!

It one of those things that makes sense right when you start seeing it, but wouldn't have thought about it. Vines are made to carry water, so they would make a good natural filter if you're trying to purify the water.

Howdy Mr. Hayes, I think it would be an extremely interresting test to see how many gallons of water these filters could filter with your water conditions while remaining "functional". I know this could be time consuming and expensive, but still an idea. Hope all is well! McCoy

  • @jax6230

Thing is that the branch itself wasn't sterile, maybe that small amount of detected bacteria came from its surface when it was dipped into the water. You also touched the branch with your hand too, which could have also introduced bacteria. So this filtering method could very well be a 100% effective if we take all other variables away.
